Resources

Which version of the Substance 3D apps should I use?

Painter and Stager are both mandatory apps for this contest. We recommend that you use the latest versions; that way you’ll be able to use the latest features!
Not a subscriber yet? Enjoy the 30-day trial version for Substance 3D Painter and for Substance 3D Stager.

Where are the Stager presets?

You can download the Stager scene with preset views here.

Which resources are allowed?

You must use the sneaker model provided, as well as the Substance 3D Stager scene for your mandatory renders. You can use any resource from Substance 3D Painter and Substance 3D Stager to customize and showcase your sneaker. Furthermore, you are encouraged to use all the assets on the Substance 3D assets content library to populate your scene. You can, of course, use custom resources, alphas, materials, decals, 3D models, and more.

Can I use Substance 3D assets or Substance 3D community assets?

Yes. Browse the thousands of high-end models, materials, and lights from Substance 3D assets and check out the community-made assets.

Can I use other apps in the process?

You can import resources from other software (sbsar, alphas, etc…), but the creative work must be done in Substance 3D Painter and Substance 3D Stager. Feel free to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as other software!

I already used my trial, can I reset it?

No. Please create a new account to start a new trial. Don’t forget to use both Painter and Stager from the same account so the “send to” function will work properly.

The Model

Where can I find the mesh for the sneaker?

You can download the Substance 3D Painter scene which includes the model here.

Can I edit the mesh?

No. However, you are allowed to use additional elements for the staging of your final render. Don’t forget that you can hunt for models, materials, and lights in the Substance 3D asset library.

Can I use tesselation or displacement?

Yes. Just make sure that your final result remains a wearable sneaker 😉

Can I change the pose of the mesh?

For your entry to be valid, you need to submit the three renders with the mandatory positions, plus one mandatory render where you can be as creative as you want. We encourage you to revisit the staging of the shoe scene for any extra render. Show us what you can do!

My Entry

Can I use current IPs in my entry?

Each copyright owner has a different policy regarding the usage of their IPs, so we can’t give an official recommendation on this topic. That said, if you take an inspiration from a brand or a famous universe, make sure to mention it. And never forget that you will be judged on creativity!

My Submission

Can I submit several projects?

We will only accept one project per artist. If you submit more than one project, we will only take the latest entry into account.

Am I limited in the numbers of renders I can submit?

In the submission form, yes. We only accept the four mandatory Stager renders. However, there is no limit to your Behance project page! Get crazy; show us your creativity!

I would like to do a video render: am I allowed?

Do whatever you like with your Behance project! Other than one showcase render with post-production, there is no limitation. Let your imagination run free!

Sharing my work

Am I allowed to share my WIPs on Discord or on social networks?

Yes, and you are encouraged to do so! Use the hashtag #thegreatshoecase to get spotted! And please join us on Discord, where we’ve set up a channel just for the contest. Meet other artists and the Substance 3D team!

Are there rules for posting on Behance?

Please use #thegreatshoecase. Other than the general platform rules, we’d love you to tag the apps you’ve used for the creation of your work!
